The virgin beauty of New Zealand invites lots of nature lovers all over the globe to settle on its shores. The country boasts of majestic mountains, untouched forests, clean rivers and other natural wonders that were once present in other lands but were devastated by man’s exploitation of nature.
But even if you are an advocate of nature preservation, you would want to posses a few modern conveniences with you, such as modern appliances. After all, you wouldn’t want to laboriously hand-wash your dirty laundry down a fast-flowing river, would you?

Follow these suggestions when packing your big appliances in preparation for shipping to New Zealand.

1. Dishwasher
Make sure there are no dishes left in the main compartment. Next, tape down the racks, door, basket, and all other parts that can be moved or detached. Check the manufacturer’s manual for instructions on how to remove the water hook-up. Tape the power cord to the dishwasher. Lastly, tape a foam pad around the dishwasher to prevent it from getting damaged.

2. Dryer
Take out the exhaust hose of the dryer. Just like what you did with the dishwasher, secure all moving or detachable parts by taping them to the appliance’s casing. Finally, wrap a large foam pad around the dryer to cushion it during transit.

3. Refrigerator
Remove the contents and defrost the refrigerator a couple days before the date of the move. Take out all movable shelves, doors, barriers, and other detachable components. Put these items together to prevent loss. Thereafter, tape the door and the cord to the body of the appliance. Wrap several layers of pads around the refrigerator then secure the appliance in a large corrugated box.

4. Washing machine
Tilt the washing machine at a sharp angle to drain the water trapped in its reservoir. Dry the interior then take out all accessories and detachable parts. Place these parts in a plastic bag or a separate box.Secure the lid of the washing machine with layers of duct tape and place bubble wrap all around the body.
