Eurail Reservations

Is the Eurail global pass worth it? Or should I buy a separate plane and train tickets?
I am going to Europe from August 6-28th with two cousins. I am debating on whether or not I should purchase the eurail pass. I am starting from Madrid, and leave from Rome. We plan to hit Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Venice, Bologna, and Rome in 3weeks. I know that’s too many cities in a short period of time, but we’ve figured it all out. We just need to know if getting the eurail pass is worth it + all the reservation fees for high speed/night trains.
We are trying to catch mostly night trains so that we don’t waste our days traveling. Can anyone tell me your experience with all the reservation fees? It seems to add up a lot, and perhaps buying separate plane and train tickets are better.. and saves time! We were looking at the 10 days within 2 months global pass.
i was in europe for 8 months traveling solo recently. I don’t think the global pass is worth it, but if you really want to see all that in 22 days, then yes, buy it. Ryanair is very cheap, esp. if you book in advance. You are doing WAY too much in 3 weeks– and all this travel will be way to expensive for the amount of time you’ll be spending on a train. That does not sound like fun to me. The global pass in not good in England, by the way. Always take the bus (National Express) in England– you can buy and print your tickets online and they’re 1/4 the price of the train– and the busses are great in england. If I were you, id end in London and fly from there to Rome on ryanair. You can take a national express bus from Amsterdam to London, and if you book a week or two in advance, it wont be too expensive. Maybe cut out Germany. Bologna is not that cool. Also, try to go to some smaller cities, instead of just capitals– san sebastian, spain has an incredible beach. Nice, france does too.
Reservation fees are terrible in Spain, but not so bad elsewhere. Can be a hassle having to book though. Overnight trains will cost you the same as a hostel– esp if you want a bed. Some overnighters have just seats you can tilt back and sleep in, which is a bit cheaper but you’ll be tired the next morning. Ten days of travel in 22 days, plus flights, will be a crazy time. enjoy. email me if you want for info
